TIMS – Taunus International Montessori School
Our Story

Our Story

Since 1973, TIMS has been a place where children feel safe, curious and ready to grow. What began over fifty years ago has grown into a thriving English-speaking Montessori community near Frankfurt — still built on Montessori education, international friendship and a deep belief in each child's potential.

Deeply Rooted in the Taunus Community Since 1973

The story of Taunus International Montessori School e.V. began over five decades ago. Founded in 1973 by a local priest, TIMS was envisioned as a sanctuary where early childhood education could transcend traditional boundaries. From those foundational days, we have proudly championed the Montessori philosophy, cultivating a warm, English-speaking environment where generations of children have discovered the joy of independent learning.

Today, as a fully registered non-profit association (e.V.), we remain fiercely dedicated to that original mission. We don't just look after children—we help them truly thrive, drawing on more than 50 years of educational excellence right here in the heart of the Taunus region.

A Montessori community since 1973

Taunus International Montessori School was founded in 1973 by a priest who believed that even the youngest children deserve a nurturing, stimulating and internationally minded place to learn. From those very first days, the school was shaped by care, community and a profound respect for each child as an individual.

More than fifty years later, that founding vision still guides everything we do. TIMS has grown into a trusted English-speaking Montessori kindergarten for families in Oberursel, Frankfurt and the wider Taunus region, yet its purpose remains exactly as clear as it was in 1973: to help children build independence, knowledge, confidence and respect for others in a safe and caring environment — supporting not only their early academic development, but also their social, emotional and cultural growth.

More than a kindergarten

TIMS is not simply a daycare, preschool or kindergarten. It is a child-centred learning community where teachers, parents, board members and the school leadership work together to create a warm and meaningful early-years experience.

For families arriving from abroad, TIMS often becomes an important first anchor in Germany. Children discover new friendships, parents meet other families, and the school becomes a familiar place in a new environment.

Our values

Preparing children for what comes next

The early years build the foundation for a child's future learning. TIMS supports children in developing concentration, confidence, communication skills and emotional resilience. These qualities help children move on to international schools, primary schools and new communities with a strong sense of self — carrying forward a tradition of care that has stood since 1973.

Independence

Children are encouraged to make choices, care for their environment and take pride in what they can do for themselves.

Respect

Children learn to care for one another, their materials, their community and the natural world around them.

Curiosity

Montessori materials and prepared environments invite children to ask questions, explore and discover.

Belonging

Our international community helps families and children feel known, welcomed and connected.
